2012 Wine Dinners


If you’ve ever been lucky enough to have more than one wine served with a particular food item, you know just how much a wine can change in the presence of tasty food.  The beautifully mysterious marriage of food and wine enhances both sides of a dining experience…a wine’s personality will change and your appreciation of the food will too.
 
You probably wouldn’t be surprised to know how much fun the table talk is when multiple wines are tasted with a course of expertly created food.  Which wine is the best by itself, which is best with the food?  For the 2012 Wine Expo, all wines have been selected and their food pairing has been determined through close consultation between Sommelier and Chef. 
 
Please take a look at the wide array of wine dinners for 2012…it’s our largest selection ever.  Wine dinner tickets often sell-out VERY quickly, so buy yours early to avoid missing out.

Maison Tait House is a gorgeous Shediac mansion filled with outstanding woodwork, cut glass and a new Chef.  Michael Harris has just returned from five years of cooking in the Caribbean and is now warming up local food lovers with inventive cuisine and a flair for presentation. 

Chef Harris is looking forward to wowing food and wine lovers during the Expo and has been working with Sommelier Bill Vance on an outstanding food and wine collaboration …with each course paired with 2 to 4 of the Wine Expo’s highest rated and most expensive wines.  This winning combination explains why this dinner sells out so quickly!  Buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

We love food almost as much as we love matching food and wine together.  And if there is one country that dominates all others when it comes to diversity, complexity and overall food & wine nirvana, it must certainly be France.
 
We also love people who have made it a labour of love to supply us with great food tasting opportunities.  Such are the people at Les Gourmandes Cheese, Delicatessen and Chocolate, a deliciously artisan specialty food store with big ambitions.  The owners, Monique Roussel and André Martineau, produce some of the best local cheeses in the region.  They also import rare and wonderful food from around the world and sell it to discerning consumers in their retail shop next to Main Street’s Crown Plaza Hotel.
 
This unique tasting experience will feature wines from many different parts of France paired with a food item from that region in an attempt to highlight the diverse nature of France and delight you with rare food items such as Foie Gras, artisan cheeses, charcuterie, etc.  And since owner Monique is a Cordon Blue trained Chef, you know the selections will be outstanding.  The wine portion will include Champagne and Sauternes to name just a few...  A special surprise will be a tasting of world-class Caviar produced in New Brunswick!

Symington Family Estates presents
‘A Passion for Port’ Dinner

Symington Family Estates is a wine company that owns several vineyards, wineries, Port brands, Madeira producers and companies making dry Douro wines.  Included in their vast holdings are some of oldest and highest quality Port brands.  In fact, this wine-loving family is often described as being a ‘Port Empire’ unto themselves.
 
Any port tasting is a rare opportunity to enjoy one of the wine-worlds most unique wine experiences.  So when the Symington family notified us of a major release of Port in New Brunswick, we gladly offered to support their efforts with a Wine Expo dinner.
 
Although the Ports offered at this dinner are not part of the Wine Expo, the opportunity to participate in a diverse Port tasting was too much to pass up.  So we’re doing something we really don’t do…allowing our passion for wine to connect with a wine-making family’s equally passionate drive for quality and diversity.
 
Your host and guide will be Mr. Pierre Dumas, one of Canada’s leading experts on Port wine.  He will be working closely with Executive Chef Stefan Muller to present a one-of-a kind food and wine pairing experience.  In addition, pre-Port wines will be presented by wine columnist and professional Sommelier Craig Pinhey.

Pastalli’s Restaurant has a well-earned reputation for creating delicious and unique ‘one-off’ menus at previous Expo wine dinners.  That and the delicious wine pairings help explain why these dinners always sell-out so quickly.  Such is the passion of owner Gilles Ratté and Sommelier Bill Vance. 
 
We will be posting more details about this very unique dinner and the proposed menu as soon as all details are finalized.  But if you’re a fan of great food and wine-related entertainment, you won’t want to miss this exciting evening.

Celebrating Malbec with Bodega Norton

Argentina is a country famous for wine and beef.  For the wine, the delicious and sexy Malbec grape is king.  For their beef…well every food item there seems to feature beef.  This is without a doubt one of Mother Nature’s best combinations of food and wine.
 
If you are already a fan of Malbec, then you probably have heard of Bodega Norton.  Each year, they produce some of Argentina’s most highly sought after Malbec based wine and this exceptional dinner will allow you to try several different quality levels of this versatile and seductive grape varietal.  Will you prefer the entry level Malbec or one of the more premium  offerings?  Who knows until you try?  What a great way to explore this Argentinian gem.
 
Mr. Diego Surazsky, international marketing manager for Bodega Norton, will host this wonderful dinner.  That fact would be interesting enough on its own, but Diego has a surprise for those in attendance.  He will be bringing a ‘cellar treasure’ for you to try.  A wine so rare that it is not offered for sale during our Wine Expo…it’s a gift from him to those lucky enough to secure tickets.  Let’s just say that most of you will never have experienced a Malbec from pre-1980.

Everyone loves great wine, especially if that wine has received recognition and high scores from some of the world's top wine writers.

This unique dinner features non Wine Expo wine but we don't think you'll mind.  Each wine scores at least 90 points, and each wine will be paired with delicious food prepared by Executive Chef Stefan Mueller.

In addition, the wines will be presented by Maria Allan, eastern Canada sales manager for top US wine producer Kendall Jackson.  Maria is bilingual and really knows her stuff.

This fantastic dinner is sure to please.  And at $135 including taxes and gratuities, it offers great gastronomic value.
