2014 Wine Dinners


The beautifully mysterious marriage of food and wine enhances both sides of a dining experience and the Wine Expo is famous for presenting some of the finest wine dinners ever.  For 2014, all wines have been selected and their food pairing has been determined through close consultation between Sommelier and Chef. 
 
Wine dinner tickets often sell-out quickly, so buy yours early to avoid missing out.

The 2014 ‘Prestige Tasting’ Dinner

The Crowne Plaza has a secret, and it’s a very good one.  For the last several years, former Niagara-on-the-lake top Chef Brad Strugnell has been combining his talent for sourcing local and carefully selected ingredients with his passion for making everything from scratch…in-house.  The result has been some of the greatest food available in the city, enjoyed by a small number of local foodies.
 
As they finish their multimillion dollar renovation, the Crowne Plaza is now ready to let the secret out.  Why not join us for this amazing evening of out-of-this-world food combined with some of the most expensive and best wines of the 2014 Wine Expo (13 wines in total).  The 9-course MENU will be posted here shortly.

Why not wine, dine and stay the night?  The Crowne Plaza is extending a special Prestige night rate of just $79 +hst which includes a recently renovated room, parking and breakfast.  You must have a dinner ticket and book direct.


 
Romanian Wine Dinner

Romania has been exciting the wine world for the past few years based on the unique and high quality wines made in this old-world country.  What better way to experience the Wine Expo’s 2014 Romanian wine offer than by sharing them with the man who made them?
 
Oenologist Justin Urucu will be in town from Romania and will be presenting six delicious wines that he knows intimately as winemaker.  Combine this experience with great food and the warm ambiance of DUO wine bar and you have an evening not to be missed.
 
Join Chef Michel Savoie and Wine Director Luc Doucet as they host a beautiful experience through Romanian style cuisine and beautiful Romanian wines presented by winemaker Justin Urucu from Vinarte winery.

The Frye Festival presents “an evening with…” —  6:30 PM, Thursday, October 31st

The Crowne Plaza’s Executive Chef Brad Strugnell may be the best-kept secret in town, but not for long.  He is dedicated to sourcing only the best ingredients and is passionate about making everything from scratch.  But when he heard that he would be cooking for this evening’s celebrity Chef (to be announced on Oct. 2nd), he was excited beyond words.  
 
This years’ Frye Festival celebrity Chef is a Canadian tour-de-force…a true Chef’s Chef.  He is arguably the most respected Chef in the country based on his philosophy for using only the freshest and best local ingredients.  And he has a new book out explaining his philosophy through recipes and words.
 
The food for this evening will be amazing.  But since this is a fund-raiser for the Frye Festival (Canada’s largest bilingual literary festival), we had to do something a bit different for our wine selections.  Different as in a tasting of six of the 2014 Wine Expo’s top scoring and best value wines. 
 
Top food, two top Chef’s, top wine.  What a great recipe for a charity dinner.  The MENU and wine list will be posted here shortly so check back often.
